A car for a trip to Gudauri: what to know
Gudauri is a ski resort in the Greater Caucasus, on the Georgian Military Road about 120 km north of Tbilisi. A car lets you combine the resort with places along the road, if the pick-up place in a rental company’s offer suits your route.

Ananuri Fortress
The fortress complex stands on the Aragvi by the Zhinvali Reservoir, on the road from Tbilisi. It makes a natural stop on the way to Gudauri.
Pasanauri and the Aragvi valley
Further north the road follows the Aragvi to the small town of Pasanauri, then climbs towards Gudauri.
Gudauri in winter and summer
The ski season usually runs from December into April. In summer, some lifts lead to marked bike trails and paragliding is offered; check what operates on your dates.
Friendship Monument and the Jvari Pass
North of the resort the road passes the Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument above the Devil’s Valley and reaches the Jvari Pass, its highest point.
Stepantsminda and Gergeti Trinity Church
Beyond the pass the road continues to Stepantsminda on the Tergi (Terek). Gergeti Trinity Church stands above the town, below Mount Kazbek. In winter, check whether the pass is open.
