Boats and yachts in Bangkok

In Bangkok, time on the water means the Chao Phraya River: a daytime cruise, a short trip on a smaller boat or an evening outing along the lit-up riverside. Sea yachts leave from the coast, not from central Bangkok.

Right now GetnDrive boat offers for Bangkok are not connected yet. This page has no vessel catalog, prices, availability or booking: it is a guide to choosing a river trip.

Choose a format

Three ways to spend time on the Chao Phraya

A guide for choosing, not a list of GetnDrive offers. Which formats are available, and on what terms, depends on the operator.

01

Daytime river cruise

A covered passenger boat on the main river, with temples, bridges and towers along the banks in daylight. A good first look at Bangkok from the water, and comfortable for groups who want shade and seats.

Ask the operator: the route, how long you spend on board and whether the boat stops at any piers.

02

Small boat trip

A smaller boat for a few passengers, such as a long-tail boat with a canopy, closer to the water and the riverside. Some routes also turn off the river into the canals (khlongs); check whether yours does.

Ask the operator: the number of seats, cover from sun and rain, how you board and life jackets in the right sizes.

03

Evening river outing

A trip after sunset along the lit-up riverside, sometimes with dinner or drinks on board. It may be a large restaurant boat or a smaller private outing; the hours, the route and what is served differ from trip to trip.

Ask the operator: departure and return times, what the price includes, whether there is a dress code and where the boat comes back to.

Boarding

Where you board: confirm it with the operator

Bangkok’s riverside has many piers, and a district name or “river pier” does not tell you where your boat leaves from. Before you pay, ask for:

Illustration: a river passenger boat arriving at a floating pier on a city riverside
  • The pier name — exactly as the operator uses it, and which bank of the river it is on.
  • The address — a street address or map pin you can show a driver.
  • Arrival time — how early to come and who meets you at the pier.
  • Return point — whether the trip ends at the same pier or somewhere else.
  • Boarding access — steps, gangways or a floating pontoon, and help for anyone with limited mobility, a pram or a wheelchair.

Scheduled public river boats that stop at numbered piers are city transport, not a private trip. For a cruise or a private boat, the pier is the one your operator confirms.

River or sea

River trips in Bangkok and sea trips from the coast

Both are time on the water, but they start in different places.

On the river in Bangkok

Trips run through the city on the Chao Phraya; smaller boats sometimes turn into the canals. You board at a riverside pier in Bangkok, and the river is shared with scheduled public boats.

At sea from the coast

Sea outings start on the Gulf of Thailand coast: the Pattaya area is a base for yacht outings, and Ban Phe in Rayong is the usual starting point for boats to Koh Samet. Both are a separate road trip from Bangkok; the vessel and the marina or pier depend on the operator.

GetnDrive does not offer or name a direct sea route from central Bangkok.

Coastal destinations: Pattaya, Ban Phe and more

The essentials

Frequently asked questions

Can I book a boat in Bangkok through GetnDrive now?

No. GetnDrive boat offers for Bangkok are not connected yet, so there is no vessel catalog, price list, calendar or booking on this page.

Does this page list operators or prices?

No. It describes typical river trip formats and the questions worth asking. It does not name companies, prices or open dates.

Which format should I choose?

For a first look at the city in daylight, a daytime river cruise. For a small group and a closer view of the riverside, a smaller boat. For the lit-up riverside and dinner, an evening outing. Then check with the operator what the trip actually includes.

Where do boat trips in Bangkok start?

From piers on the Chao Phraya, but every operator uses its own. Ask for the exact pier name, address, arrival time and return point, and how boarding works, before you pay.

Can I go to the sea or the islands from central Bangkok?

Not as an ordinary river trip. Sea trips start on the coast: the Pattaya area is a base for yacht outings, and Ban Phe in Rayong is the usual starting point for boats to Koh Samet. You reach both from Bangkok by road; the vessel and the pier depend on the operator. GetnDrive does not offer or name a direct sea route from the capital.

Are river trips suitable for children?

Often, but rules differ. Ask whether children are welcome and from what age, whether there are child-size life jackets and how boarding works at the pier.

What happens if the weather turns?

Heavy rain and storms are most likely in the rainy season, roughly from mid-May to mid-October. Before you pay, ask who decides whether the trip goes ahead and how rescheduling or cancellation works.

What affects the price, and what is included?

The boat, a private or shared trip, its length and time of day, food and drinks, and fees. Ask for a written list of what is included and what is paid separately.

Will I need any documents?

Ask the operator whether passengers need to show a passport or ID and whether names are needed in advance. If you want to drive a boat yourself, check the operator’s conditions and the applicable local requirements first.

How can a boat operator join GetnDrive?

Open the partner application, select “Yachts” or “Boats” and tell us about your company, vessels and piers. Listing offers on GetnDrive requires a separate review.
